I'm an architect based in the West Midlands, UK. I live with my family in a self-build labour of love called home4self - a slightly idiosyncratic experiment in architecture, construction and materials that won a few awards, although the neighbours probably still don't know what to make of it.

You can contact me via or find me in the usual places, such as twitter and instagram.

architecture + teaching

At Axis Design Architects we specialise in homes and community based projects and have played a role in improving social housing, public consultation and environmental design in the region since the 1980s.

Recent projects include numerous housing schemes for the Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust, collaborations with technology innovators examining digital tools in the construction sector, community centre buildings using rapid methods of pre-fabricated construction and self-build projects testing alternative materials and details.

As a visiting tutor to the Birmingham School of Architecture I have taught in design studios across the undergraduate and postgraduate program.

My interests in studio tend towards acknowledging architecture is an explicitly political act and discussing the role of the architect in that context, exploring the contingent forces that the profession must negotiate and then harness, recognising drawing as a critical tool for analysis, finding intellectural rigour and inspiration through reading and learning to love how hard it is to place one material next to another beautifully.
