Still here. Like a Norwegian Blue, I’ve just been resting. I return with some summer frippery.
First, another day in the life post, since the past one proved quite popular. This time delivered via twitter, an offering made even more poignant perhaps by yesterday’s news that they’ve pulled the plug on the UK.
So, from the bottom [...]

Strangely tapering humanoids

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

And there I was thinking I ruled the roost when it came to sharing architectural images of days gone by. A link by thingsmagazine.net to nastybrutalistandshort caught my eye for another reason when I spotted a Gorden Cullen sketch taken from a book that currently resides on my bedside table*: Homes for Today and Tomorrow [...]

Annotated walk to my office

Episode 1 - Jencks and Erskine

Erskine puts the world (and critics) to rights

And other topics…This is the journal of an architect, rather [...]

Buildings that rock: Architectural nightmare no. 666

I’m trapped in a building by Satriani. It’s suffocating and claustrophobic with nowhere to stand back and view the spaces. If there were you’d realise there are no spaces to view. An architecture whose rhythm is drowned out by the relentless onslaught of over-hand tapped out details on a [...]

The Public out of pocket

Monday, March 6th, 2006

Oh dear. I was beginning to wonder why The Public building was taking a while to finish. Here’s the answer:

Administrators have been called in at a multi-million pound arts centre being developed in the Black Country.

The Public, in West Bromwich, was scheduled to open in July but it is has debts and other funding issues.

Bosses [...]

return ticket to hell and back

Monday, February 20th, 2006

Justin Hawkins, front man of The Darkness, greets the crowd at last night’s Birmingham gig in what I can only describe as a flying breastship. With flashing nipples.

Pyrotechnics, wit and impressive musicianship. Teasing us with the occasional opening bar of a Van Halen track and reminding us not to take it all too seriously [...]
